The Innkeepers

Briarcliffe Inn is owned and operated by Mary and Bill Kendrick.  They run the Inn together so it's not unusual to see them both working in the kitchen, making up rooms or in the gardens.

Mary and Bill have two wonderful daughters, Whitney and Ainsley.

Whitney is an Occupational Therapist in Revelstoke, BC. where she lives with her husband Cory Beisel.  This photo was taken at the top of the mountain where Whitney and Cory were married March 28, 2009.  We all flew up in a helicopter including her Cavalier Cali who was the ring dog!

And this is Whitney and Cory's beautiful son Ford.

We're pretty proud grandparents!

Ainsley (right) worked as a stage manager for various dance troupes and theatre companies in Toronto and now is with Volunteer Toronto where she is involved with a digital storytelling project teaching various volunteer organizations how to produce videos telling the stories of their volunteers.  She and her wife Dian Miguel live with their cat Loki and dog Harley).  Ainsley has said some day she'd like to  come home to the Maritimes and establish a gay theatre company.

The Kendricks have bred and trained Cavalier King Charles Spaniels for over 30 years but currently have only one who resides at Briarcliffe Inn with them..... Martha. You will see evidence of more than three decades of collecting Cavalieria in all the bedrooms, baths, halls and even in the kitchen. Since the collection has grown to several hundred pieces we decided that it would be a great theme to carry throughout Briarcliffe

Mary has always had an entrepreneurial streak in her. After spending years working for a large insurance company, a finance company, and the federal government she finally followed her heart by establishing her first business called Step Savers....a personal grocery shoppng service in Burlington, Ontario. After selling the company, she managed a small art distribution company which eventually brought us to Prince Edward Island in 1993. It was here she found her true entrepreneurial calling. She established a unique training program for artisans wanting to move from craftspeople to business operators making a living doing what they love. Following her own advice, in 1998 she set up her own business, Antiquesnorth, buying and selling antiques around the world over the internet. She is Chair of the South Shore Tourism Group,  Past Chair of the Bed & Breakfast and Country Inns Assoc. of PEI and a member of the provincial government's Tourism Advisory Council which is keeping her very busy but she can still find the time for auctions and selling a few antiques at the Inn.

Bill has spent the last 30 years as a television journalist working for all the major networks in Canada but spent the last 25 years with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He has worked as a camera operator/editor, reporter, current affairs producer/director and Executive Producer. In 2000, he established his own independent production company, Island Images Inc. in order to co-produce two documentary projects for CBC Newsworld-Rough Cuts(Paradise in Peril) and Vision TV (Soul Expressions).

Island Images Inc. has produced a performing arts documentary called Measha Brueggergosman - Spirit in her Voice for the program Opening Night on the CBC...which aired in October, 2003 and a documentary series for CBC Newsworld called Thirty Five Years in the Life.

In 2001, Bill and Mary came upon an old vacant farmhouse at Salutation Cove on Prince Edward Island. It re-kindled a long held dream of theirs to open a bed and breakfast by the sea. They also saw it as an opportunity to create a television special about their experience....so Bed & Breakfast Dream was created and was aired on HGTV on March 20, 2004.

Bill completed a five part series of documentaries for the CBC Newsworld called 35 Years in A Life which kept him traveling in the spring of 2006. This series was aired on CBC in the spring of 2006.

Following that, they developed their new company Experience PEI creating unique one of a kind experiences providing visitors with a totally different way to see the Island.
